Model Documents
As you draft documents for your clients, you frequently modify existing documents by replacing the changeable text in the document (such as names, dates, and figures) with the current clientís information. Rather than search through a document for this text each time you need to customize the document for a new client, you can create a model document.
Model documents are exemplar documents that can be used as the basis for drafting documents of the same type for specific clients. A model document is marked up using the Model Document Markup Language (MDML), which provides an unambiguous description of how a model document should be used to draft client-specific documents. Examples of documents you can mark up using MDML include wills, legal filings, real estate contracts, and so forth.
Once you have created a model document, you can use it with document assembly applications, such as HotDocs, to quickly generate custom documents for your clients. If you are using HotDocs Professional, you can also convert your model documents to HotDocs template format so they can be added to your collection of templates. Similarly, you can convert existing HotDocs templates to model document format so they can be shared with other content experts unfamiliar with HotDocs.
You mark up model documents directly in Microsoft Word.
